Great Machine with a Sticky Foot Pedal August 25, 2010 K. Burton (Maryland) I have been sewing on this machine for about 3 years and find it easy to use, very easy to thread, does lovely decorative stitches and a great buy for the cost. My only issues is with the foot pedal- it STICKS all the time; when you apply additional pressure it surges ahead at warp speed. I wish there was some way to take it apart and WD40 it; I may try that someday! All in all, though, a nice little machine.
Singer 7412 August 11, 2010 PT The seller sent me Singer 7412 instead of 7442 as a sale contract. But it is good enough to me.
The thread is jamping on the bottom I have to use thin blade to cut it so I can remove fabric out of machine.
Otherwise, it is good sewing machine.
singer sewing machine July 30, 2010 fred Purchased a Singer 7442 as a gift for my grandaughter. I used it for ten days while she was away on vacation with her parents. I altered a number of pairs of slacks, both dress and everyday slacks. Once I figured out how the machine worked, it performed very well with one exception. It couldn't handle the bulk seam on denim dungerees. The presser foot couldn't get high enough to handle the bulk. Other wise it performed very well. The auto needle threading and the needle reverse button were godsends. I was happy with the machine and my grand daughter was elated. I felt it was a very goon purchase.
Only worked correctly for a couple of months... June 26, 2010 Amy K. Clifton I purchased this sewing machine at Walmart a couple of years ago. I know anything purchased at Walmart might not be the best quality, but I was just looking for a basic sewing machine for simple projects so I though it would be fine.
The first machine I got worked for a month, then it suddenly wouldn't keep the correct tension. I took it to a repair shop and the man said to just return it to the store because the model I had seemed to be defective. I did that, and the new machine I got worked normally for about three months before the same thing started happening. When sewing the tension will be correct, the stitches look nice, and then suddenly in the middle of a project the bottom of the fabric will have loops instead of nice stitches and/or the top stitch will be in a straight line. No matter what you do, even when the sewing machine is set up correctly, it will randomly mess up the tension while sewing. It also has a tendency to eat your fabric and jam up because the presser foot doesn't pull it through smoothly--it will suddenly stop pulling it through, or it will shoot through really fast when you aren't expecting it.
This sewing machine is difficult to use. It eats projects and wastes a lot of time. I have seriously considered throwing this sewing machine out of the window and watching it smash on the driveway below when it's eaten my fabric for the 140th time in a row. Don't buy it if you want a sewing machine that will last more than a few months!
very nice sewing machine June 4, 2010 shopper mom The machine was ready to sew when I got it no tension adj. thank goodness so I am happy with my purchase
